Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Pather.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Durban, South Africa. My family immigrated to the U.S. in 2001 in search of safety and opportunity. For as long as I can remember, I have always been a hustler. I remember selling things so I could buy what I wanted even at 10 years old. Before the age of 18, I had already started several businesses including selling grills (the kind that Nelly rapped about) and sneakers and other things out of the trunk of my car. In high school, I was known as the sneaker king and later I was sued by Nike at only 17 years old. I didn’t get rich from those businesses but I learned several important business lessons.
Then in 2011, my friend and I saw a photo booth at a wedding and knew we could do it better. We built our very first photo booth out of wood but soon found that it was too heavy to move back and forth. We did a lot of testing until we found the right equipment to help us keep things moving. The end result was a photo booth that was portable, easy to use and that provided a great end result.
When we started the photo booth rental business, I was still working full time for one of the major credit bureaus. A couple months after we started the photo booth business, my job gave us some major news. Our entire department was being outsourced to Costa Rica. We had two options; a severance package or an entry level position with a pay cut. I decided to take the severance package so that I could give the photo booth rental business 100% of my attention. In my opinion, this was a blessing in disguise, it is what pushed me to pursue the business full time. I couldn’t think of a better time to give it a shot.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is definitely not a straight line. My business partner and I did not see things the same way and were forced to cut ties. I have also learned a lot about hiring and firing throughout the last four and a half years. There are always bumps on the road but at the end of the day, they are what make an entrepreneur wiser and the company stronger.
Photo Booth Dallas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The photo booth rental business, Photo Booth Dallas was started December of 2012 just in time for the holidays. It was amazing how fast things grew. Photo Booth Dallas provides photo booth rentals all across the DFW Metroplex. We provide photo booth rentals for all types of events including but not limited to, birthdays, weddings, corporate events, quinceaneras, and more. Our photo booths bring so much joy and fun to events and it is truly a rewarding experience to see memories being made. We recently celebrated our 4th anniversary. We have a strong team that loves what they do and our clients have learned to recognize our name. We feel honored that our clients chose us to be a part of their special events and we pride ourselves in providing outstanding customer service and creating a memorable experience at every event.
Our other company, Photo Booth International was born in 2015. We kept getting the same question over and over, “Where can I buy one of these booths?”. Photo Booth International provides turn-key photo booth packages to clients all across the world. The majority of our clients are entrepreneurs just like me, looking to get out of the corporate world. However, we do also cater to existing businesses such as hotels, resorts, casinos and more. We stand out from the competition because we have the knowledge and the expertise from actually working in the field. Our customers love that we can relate to them on that level. We offer our customers access to our business contracts, webinars, training videos and more while other companies just sell the product but not the knowledge. We never charge any franchise fees and we are commitment to seeing our clients succeed.
